Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are located in an urban area of New Jersey, which has been described by the media as "the poorest city in the U.S." and "the most dangerous city in America." A full 96% of our students are classified as "economically disadvantaged;" 16% have special needs.

I am a self-contained special education teacher and this year I will be teaching a wonderful group of 4th through 6th-grade students.

My students range from 9 years old to 12 years old. As you can see, that is quite a range of ages and can become quite challenging. Each child is on a different reading and math level, and each child has their own set of IEP goals that need to be met by years end.

My class is extremely hands-on, and we love to incorporate projects when learning new math material and creating book reports and posters. When learning is fun, I believe students tend to enjoy school more.

These Sharpies will add excitement to our growing library/ writers workshop area, as well as enhance all of of math project based activities. I believe children learn better when differentiated instruction is incorporated into learning. Thank you so very much!
