My Students

My kids are still learning what it means to be a reader. As adult readers, we know what it is like to get in the "reading zone." We usually get to this place when we cuddle up with a good book. I would love to give my students the environment needed to experience the "reading zone."

I teach in an urban school serving students from many different backgrounds and cultures.

The majority of my students live below the poverty line and face unfortunate disadvantages in life. On top of the economic issues surrounding our community, the school district and state of Wisconsin are facing a huge finical crisis at the moment. We are in desperate need of more supplies and have no funding. My students are very intelligent. I have full faith that my students will go on to transform our community and world into a better place. I have students who are interested in engineering, math, science, creative writing, art, music and so much more. We need to provide them with resources to pursue their dreams. With your donation, we can give them the opportunities they deserve to succeed in life.

My Project

I am requesting six bean bag chairs. With your donation, I can give each child a "special chair" day in reading workshop. Fourth grade is an important year for creating readers. I believe it is important for every child to experience the "reading zone." To help get children into the zone, I need to provide a comfortable space for children to read. When I pick up a book, I get comfortable on my couch and I can sit for hours. I can't do this is in a hard wooden desk. Kids have a hard time sitting in a desk too. By placing bean bags in the classroom, we are giving kids the chance to experience the reading zone.

I love watching non-readers experience the reading zone.

Books open up new new worlds to my students. Now, more than ever, we need to fight to keep authentic reading alive. My students have taken more reading tests than I can count. I need to make sure my kids still have pleasurable reading experiences with high quality literature in a comfortable environment. I hope you will help me keep reading alive by donating a comfortable reading environment so every child can experience the zone.
