My students and I were able to make tie blankets for Project Linus, a foundation that will donate the the blankets we made to children who are currently in the hospital. My students were so excited to do this project and to give back to their community. Every student got to choose the fleece bought from this donation to make into a tie blanket.\r\nThis project not only taught my students the value of giving back to others, but they also needed to practice measuring, since the ties needed to be so long and wide. Many of them used rulers and permanent markers, but some realized using painters tape to mark how far down they needed to cut, the only thing they needed to mark off was the width of the strips. Your contributions funded new regulation tools and materials that will refresh the space and support the Loan a Tool initiative, which extends regulation strategies beyond the Den and into classrooms. When students find a tool that works for them during a visit, we can now offer that same tool for use in their classroom, helping students practice regulation where they learn every day. \r\n\r\nThis year, 256 individual students, approximately 42% of the student body, accessed the space, up from 35% last year. Students visit for an average of 11 minutes to practice regulation strategies with a supportive adult before returning to class. 71% of students leave the space in a regulated state, as measured by the Zones of Regulation.\r\n\r\nYour support directly strengthens the bridge between the Den and the classroom, which is where lasting skill-building happens. I am using these items in the classroom to help with sensory needs, as well as in pull out SEL groups to work on key regulation strategies! Most of my students are non-verbal so they learn best through play and the items you helped me to purchase have been extremely helpful to my students! I have students who were having extreme escalation multiple times a day, and by implementing the Little spot curriculum they have learned to identify their feelings and have decreased the amount of daily escalation. The I feel and I need charts have been so helpful for my students who don't have words to tell me how they feel or what they need! Two different students are independently going to the chart daily to express their feelings and needs! \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials they were so happy and excited! While they aren't able to voice their appreciation you could see by the look on their faces how excited they were to get such amazing tools to help them learn! \r\n\r\nI also was able to get some amazing literacy games and materials. Every one of my students has made growth in literacy and that is mainly due to the amazing generosity of everyone who donated to my class! \r\n\r\nMy next step is to continue to use these items materials to make progress in reading, as well as to continue teaching the students how to identify their feelings.
