Help me give my students incentives to teach expected behaviors and to promote positive behavior on campus. The result will be a positive learning environment and competent, responsible citizens.
This comprehensive high school currently has an enrollment of approximately 3,740 students. We are focused on providing all students with the opportunity to achieve. We accommodate individual learning styles while maintaining high, obtainable expectations for students. We are very proud of its rigorous academic, vocational, and athletic programs, as well as its extensive range of extracurricular activities. Staff and parents work together to create a learning environment that promotes academic and social development, teaches responsibility and pride, and models learning as a lifelong venture.

And they know that building career and college ready young adults doesn’t begin and end with academics. It’s also about teaching students to be responsible and competent citizens. Students need these soft skills, they feel, when entering the workforce or post-secondary education. Every day, administrators, teachers, and support staff recognize the student actions that contribute to a positive school climate. Recognition comes in the form of Shark Bytes, which students earn for being present for office hours, showing responsibility, having integrity, achieving, being respectful, knowing themselves (“Be a Shark”), and demonstrating school spirit.
My Project
The Be a SHARK Pro Shop allows students on campus to cash in their Shark Bytes (positive behavior points earned daily from staff members) for weekly incentives based on expected behavior expectations in and around campus. Funding this project will allow our Be a SHARK team to reward positive student behavior more frequently on campus.
If we model, encourage, and teach social, emotional, and behavioral expectations in a safe and supportive environment, then we will create a sense of community and belonging where all staff and students work towards a common goal. The result will be a positive learning environment and competent, responsible citizens.
