Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year our district participates in a competition called Battle of the Books, where upper elementary students read as many books from a list as possible before forming teams for an epic, end-of-year, game-show type competition. The list changes annually, but it's always full of both classic and new books that captivate young readers. Sometimes our school library has them, sometimes students would need to buy them on their own.

Here's where this project comes in: help me get almost all of this year's Battle of the Books List so our 4th grade students can have a classroom library of every book!

Students can read the books with their friends, write a summary and answer engaging questions afterwards, and set themselves up for engaging reading all school year. Communal experiences for children are harder these days, as tech companies push harder and harder every year for students, younger and younger, to become reliant on computer and phones and apps.

These books will remind students that the world is not online, that people and stories and understanding others is a key to both academic success and personal growth. Your kind donation will help 4th graders at GSES who may not otherwise have access to all these wonderful books, have a year of amazing reading as growing humans! Thank you!
