I teach at a school where at least 75% of my students have free or reduced lunches and they amaze me EVERY DAY.
People cannot take a break from poverty.
Most of my students are missing parents, struggling for a stable home, or wondering where their next meal will come from. Despite all of the pressures that they come to school and try to better themselves. They tackle world problems, conference with experts, have extracurricular activities, and construct interdisciplinary STEM projects.
The students use the pencils, dry erase markers and paper for every class but we use the tape to construct labs, station activities, and breakouts.
The materials I am requesting will help students focus on their learning in the day-to-day environment instead of focusing on how they will secure school supplies.
With the right supplies, the students decide how they learn and how they process for the majority of my classes. These supplies, along with my existing supplies, will give them the flexibility to design the lesson the way they want it. This increases student engagement and student ownership of their learning.
