My Students

My students are proud members of the Sicangu Rosebud tribe. My students often do not understand the links between things such as writing and reading or writing and science. It is difficult to have students who are wanting to learn and, yet, some of the resources are not there.

I have the usual eclectic bunch of students; however, the problem is that many of them do not think that they will ever leave the reservation.

One of the side perks of this job is that I get to teach them to dream. Their writing shows that they have dreams and that some of them will be able to reach these dreams with a good education and a little bit of hard work.

My Project

The students will use the requested basketballs, soccer balls, and footballs to help them practice before games. Our students do not have the necessary equipment to practice and become better athletes.

Our kids often do not have access to the kinds of equipment that are prevalent in more affluent areas.

They get to some games not having enough time to practice. Many students don't have access to balls at home and take what they can find at school. This causes us to have less and less equipment for our teams. These balls will help my students' self esteem, become better athletes, and well rounded citizens.
