Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever felt the excitement of holding something in your hand to explore what it is? Many of my students come into my class and have the opportunity to hold science in their hands but without enough material they have to wait in line for others to finish first.

It is best for students to learn through hands-on activities such as labs.

In science it is important to bring the concepts to life so the student's have the opportunity to explore and understand their world better. In order to do this it is important to have the proper tools to make this happen. The students I have are gifted and sheltered students. The gifted students are able to take a lab and transform it into something bigger such as a research project. It is also great to see them come up with ideas on how to construct a lab from some basic materials. Some of my sheltered students can barely understand what I say and it is great to see them understand through the use of labs and hands-on activities. All of my students benefit from the use of labs and are great students.

My Project

Even though I work in a school who's funds are cut all the time, I make sure my students have the opportunity of applied science. I enjoy seeing my students eager and excited to finish their labs. The only problem I have is not having enough resources for all of my students. The students pile around and wait in line for the 1 or 2 balances that are available. The labs would be much safer and more enriching for the students if all of the groups had their own materials. Having a balance for each group of students would limit the traffic in the classroom during lab. Each group could sit at a lab table and work with less chance of spilling a chemical or running into each other. I use the balances for many labs in my classroom. We learn chemistry, physics and astronomy during our school year and each subject has a lab that requires the balances. Please help us in providing a safer and more comfortable environment in the classroom.

The difference you will make for my students by helping is limitless.

Students will find the labs more enjoyable by obtaining their results quicker, thus bringing their "Aha!" moment faster. They will be more safe in the classroom because they will not have to walk around the room with their chemicals, glassware, and other materials. They won't have to wait in line to use something so important for them. Please help me extend the gift of hands-on learning to my students. Thank you!!!
