And that is why having the latest and fastest technology can be quite a boon for a resource strapped public school classroom in the heart of Los Angeles.\r\nI've always believed that excellent education does not occur in a vacuum. Instead, we depend upon a support network of community members as well as outside contributors to make learning meaningful and equitable. I'm excited to note that such a network has been sustained today with the funding of this project. With the generous contributions from Olga Graham Inspiring Teachers Fund, my classes are again pumped with enthusiasm. And the technology has always been here for us to access the learning standards. In our writing lessons, students have been exploring how to clearly state the main point of the text. Our computers and printers allow us to highlight these items in different colors so that proofreaders could more easily target those crucial sentences.\r\n\r\nThese donations enable students to print out their paragraphs in color, highlighting the very areas where those main ideas or transitions should occur.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous contributions! Recently, they examined cross sections of different tissues and got to see a variety of cells up close. The room was filled with excitement as they made their discoveries. Many couldn't believe what biology looks like on such a tiny scale. Every student was eager for their turn at the microscope, and it sparked lots of curious questions.\r\n\r\nNext, we're connecting this exploration to our health curriculum specifically our nutrition unit. Students will be inspecting Greek yogurt under the microscope to observe probiotics and discuss how these \"good bacteria\" contribute to our physical health. This hands-on investigation will help them make direct connections between what they eat and the science behind it.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Students were able to get snacks and some incentives for a special schoolwide activity we held for those who made improvement in their academics, citizenship, and attendance. The end of the year carnival we hosted was a hit with all grade levels and they were shocked to receive prizes that included snacks, squishy toys, and cute erasers. Everyone left home smiling that day. \r\n\r\nI truly thank all of you for making our school community a place where kids feel their efforts are being recognized and celebrated. The calming environment has provided not only a cozy space to work but also an opportunity for students to regulate their emotions and return to their tasks with renewed energy and clarity.\r\n\r\nAs the school year continues, I hope to add even more small, comforting, and cozy touches ( more plants, cushions, calming tools, etc) to this space so it can grow into an even stronger source of comfort and focus for the students.
