This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students regularly deal with trauma in many forms: poverty, homelessness, hunger, abuse, imprisonment of family members, etc. Their young minds often find it difficult to concentrate on their studies for any length of time.
All of my students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.
Often, school meals are the only food they eat in a day. Concentration and putting forth the energy needed for learning is difficult, although they are curious. My students crave new experiences and information.
My students like to experiment with different types of technology and media. I love watching them make connections in our ELA center activities.
My Project
When my new class comes through the doors in August they will need some important back-to-school supplies.
Providing my students with durable poly homework folders ensures that our folders will last all year.
Children are more likely to take care of their supplies if they have proper storage. Clear independent reading book bags help the young readers protect their books and other supplies as they enjoy flexible seating.
Quality pencils and lined paper are essential for back-to-school kids to get down to business. I can't wait to read all about their summer vacation adventures as well as what they want to learn during the new school year.
