This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is in the middle of a small neighborhood within a tight knit community. I teach 5th grade to students who are working hard to be successful in middle school. I am at a title I school with many students who are often unable to purchase the supplies needed for school. I am so proud of the progress I see every day.

Right now our classroom is struggling to maintain our supply of essential items for learning.

I teach 3 groups of students a day for a total of about 80 students coming through my room. We go through a lot of pencils and erasers! I have to replace these basic items monthly and each night I take home all my pencils to sharpen them at home. My hope is to receive enough so that having a sharp pencil and eraser daily is not a concern that any of my students have to deal with.
