My Students

As a school teacher, it is really hard motivate to kids and make it fun. With high school age kids, this becomes even harder. I have found that the information they retain is mostly from an activity they created.

My students are AWESOME!

We are located in a suburb area that is booming at the moment, but most families have been here all of their lives. Most of the students I get come from low income households, and some with only one parent. We have a very large school, the largest in our county, but we have very little funding. The budget cuts are not just hurting a teacher's paychecks anymore, they are slowly taking a toll on the students. With little money for supplies, these students are hurting financially. At first, I purchased these materials out of my own pocket, but I cannot afford it anymore. I want these students to have a creative outlet in my classroom, unfortunately that cannot happen without a little financial assistance.

My Project

Teens are told to grow up and act their age all the time, but in doing so we take away the last chance they have to actually enjoy their freedom. In trying to preserve this while educating, I incorporate a lot of projects that my students can finish within a class period or two. With these materials, my students will be able to design posters, leaflets, advertisements, flip books, and much more. I have had great success with these assignments and it's an outlet for these students. They get to put a personal touch on their product while also learning the material.

This project gives students creativity rather than being a cookie cutter product.

I encourage my students to be themselves and these supplies will help them do that. Without financial assistance for basic items like coloring pencils and markers, these students will miss out on a great opportunity to shine!
