My Students

A new school year is approaching fast and my class is all set up to welcome its new students. But wait a minute, what do I not see on the desks...supplies!

I teach at a model school that incorporates performing arts, visual arts, coding, computer science, and STEM (STEAM) within the curriculum.

Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student, and Title I services to economically disadvantaged boys and girls.

We are a class which includes military families, gifted/talented students, ESL/ELL students, inclusion/special education students, and the tech savvy.

My students are energetic and very busy within the classroom. Even with parental support, I would love to say that my students have everything that they need to be successful. But they don't. We are preparing students for college, the workforce, and the world beyond, so they can have a better life.

My Project

We send school supply list home and our parents try their best to get their student's supplies, but some are not able to. Students came to school every year missing the necessary things to be successful.

Every child wants to go Back 2 School with their own supplies.

I am requesting 25 spiral notebooks so each one of my students will have a five-subject notebook for language arts. Having a notebook with multiple sections will allow my students to move around the room during stations carrying only one notebook. We also need tape, glue sticks, and highlighters to use with those notebooks to diagram sentences, color code story elements, and place anchor charts in our notebooks to make them user-friendly and interactive.
