This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A baby's crying can be so frustrating! What if there is a way for parents and babies to communicate earlier than words? There is! Through Baby Sign Language we can reduce the frustrations for both our Teen Moms and their children.

My students are teen-mothers in grades 7-12.

They are working towards graduation while raising a child. We support them through special programs. The program these students attend is called "Teen-mothers Learning Community" or TLC. It is a self-contained program where the students take their basic courses and Child Development.

My Project

With the resources you provide we can use our class time to start to work on skills related to child development. The videos can be watched in class and checked out for reference at home. The books and flash cards on Baby Sign language will teach the moms, who in turn, practice the signs with their child. An infant as young as 6-9 months can start to request things like milk, more, juice, etc. This early communication eases the frustration level of both the mom and child because now each knows how to ask and what is needed.

As young mothers attending school full time, these moms face a lot of stressful situations and frustrations each day.

In order to ease frustrating interactions with their children, teaching them Baby Sign Language will improve communication for both the parent and child. Our goal is Healthy Happy Mothers and Children!
