My students need art supplies including large rolls of butcher paper, sharpies, craft sticks, construction paper, and colored pencils to create backdrops for their performances.

My Students

Drama students are clever, feisty, and willing to put themselves into crazy situations! This is a 7/8 advanced drama class that they tried out by reading a monologue. These kids take risks that most junior high kids are unwilling to take. These students write scripts, perform puppet shows, readers theatre, and do a full play at the end of the year. The students will learn effective communication skills such as volume, clarity/rate, vocal expression, gestures. They leave with much more confidence than when they started!

My Project

The art supplies I am requesting will be used to create various backdrops for plays, puppet shows, drama masks, commercials, and newscasts.

For the plays, giant multi-colored butcher paper would decorate the background for whatever play we pick for that year.

We work in conjunction with advanced art class, so this butcher paper would also help art class support us.

For puppet shows, students will use the butcher paper to decorate their mini stage. In addition, they will use the popsicle sticks, yarn, and markers/Sharpies to design their puppets that will "pop" out of their stage as they present their unique story line to the class.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
