Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with special needs children and students on the Autism Spectrum. This project for a brooder, bedding, pads, chick toys, feed, and other resources will allow these students hands on opportunities to help care for the chicks by feeding them and observing them at school. The students will learn about the chick life cycle as well as characteristics/body parts of chicks. As we are an urban school, many students do not have opportunities to have personal and up-close interactions with animals. Students with limited verbal abilities shine when exposed to animals. The goal is to bring joy and amazement, and to have good old fun with baby chicks! As I reside in Pennsylvania, once the project is completed, the chicks will live their lives on a local farm that I have partnered with.
