Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Since the budget cuts, our school is unable to purchase art supplies for our class. Art is the first budget that gets deleted. Many of my students express themselves through art by creating beautiful murals and paintings.
I have twenty-five 5th grade gifted and high achieving students who are from an extremely low income neighborhood that is infested with gangs, drugs and prostitution.
Despite their environment, these students manage to excel further than most of their peers. The school contains grades first through sixth with an enrollment of approximately 900 plus students. Although, most of my students are intellectually gifted, they have superior artistic abilities. Many of my students cannot afford crayons and watercolors. Therefore, our drawings are usually pencil drawn. Our class would like to infuse the class, school and neighborhood with our beautiful artwork.
My Project
The resources will help students learn to beautify their school and neighborhood. Instead of looking at graffiti written walls, they can post pictures of their artwork in the library, grocery stores, medical and dialysis centers, and school. I want them to see signs of hope for a better community. Perhaps their older brothers and sisters can help promote this projects by creating artwork with them. In addition to the art, students will create clay figurines that can be use to decorate the local senior citizen home. Students will learn that they are responsible for the aesthetic appearance of their school and local community.
I believe that this project will bring the school and local community together.
I believe that beauty things are contagious. When you see beautiful pictures, you want to surround yourself with more. In their creativity, students will be able to use their talents to help their school to become more safer.
