My Project

The students at my school come from economically disadvantaged homes and are all minorities. The students in my classes are all special needs students or students who are struggling learners in need of skill development and are 2 to 5 years behind their peers. Many of my students have Autism, intellectual disabilities, Dyslexia, emotional differences or other learning differences. They have various sensory needs that need to be addressed so that they can make progress and learn new skills. One area we need more materials to address is the area of art.

My students enjoy art and need to engage in creative ways to express their feelings, needs, and wants.

The art easel, floor mat, and pain supplies will be used as a station to address the need to draw, color and paint. The light box will be used to trace or draw as well as use transparent counters and toys. These both will help with student who need visual stimulation as well as a way to express themselves.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
