My Students

My class has 26 of the most wonderful, hard-working children any teacher could hope for. I teach second grade in a rural school district on the southern Oregon coast. Our school is a Title 1 school, which receives assistance and support from the federal government because of the increase of low-income students we serve in this region. To watch these enthusiastic students expand their knowledge and love of learning every day is a huge honor that I am grateful to be a part of.

My Project

I teach art for enrichment with our primary grades and love the idea of being able to add different ways to implement it into our curriculum. I chose a few items that most students don't have the opportunity to use. For example molding clay, highlighters, oil pastels, drawing chalk and paper to go with it. The storage units will help contain these items and permit easy access.

Offering different options to help my students discover their artistic ability will create a life long enjoyment of art for them.

I truly believe all of these items will be utilized, and help the students realize the benefits art provides. Research shows that art allows students to develop habits needed to help them expand their learning.
