Our Middle School is an inner-city school with a diverse population. We have over 750 children walking through our hallways, speaking a variety of languages and coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Individual student art experiences range from kids who go to art camps and take classes at the local art college, to students who have never used paint, or experienced building in clay.
My classroom is a safe place where students of all abilities can come and express themselves and learn how art can enrich their lives on a daily basis.
My Project
My students are both hybrid (a combination of in-person and remote) or fully remote this school year. Many students do not have the proper materials at home to create art, and students at school are not allowed to share art supplies due to health and safety concerns. This presents a challenge to equip students both in school and at home with basic supplies so that they can create art. Many students have told me that art class helps relieve the stress, anxiety, and challenges that remote learning present on a daily basis. I want to provide them with as rich an art experience as I can.
