Remember when you were in school and you drew a picture.......you couldn't wait to color it in. My class needs unique art materials to make their pictures sparkle and shine.
I teach in a New York City public school and we have an international community.
We are one of the most diverse communities in the nation and we are really a microcosm of the international mosaic that makes our city great. Our parents speak many languages and represent numerous cultures. It brings so much to our school that we consider ourselves truly fortunate.
My Project
Art is an integral part of my classroom and kids love it. With a classroom of students of different levels and experiences, art is a common denominator. The quote, "A picture paints a thousand words," is never more meaningful than when a child who can't speak English, draws a picture to communicate their ideas. If this project is funded it will not only give my students unique art materials but it will encourage them to communicate whether they speak English or not.
Color and beautiful art supplies make a difference in what students produce.
If they know they can use high quality art supplies such as markers and crayons, then their imaginations soar. What better way to send a powerful message to our families and their children than to bring in art supplies that they really cannot afford. By providing the best art for our children, we feel confident that they will then produce fine work and exhibit a sense of pride in their work. We will then display it.
