Art Portfolio Preparation

Help me give my students the opportunity to present their art portfolios to the class, watch art documentaries that are related to art lessons, and present art lessons/instructions to the classes.

My Project

My 8th Graded Advanced Art, 7th Grade Intermediate Art, and Social Justice Art classes are required to put together an art portfolio and present in front of their peers for their final exam. Throughout the school year they show the progress of their portfolio during class critique. This give the students the opportunity to receive suggestions, ask questions and really get an in person experience talking in front of an audience.

The purpose of having them create and present their art portfolio is to prepare them for applying to high schools, art schools, and arts how submissions.

Their portfolios are becoming more media art and digital art focused, which require for them to show on better quality equipment, such as a television. Previously they have presented using projectors. The challenges with projectors are the visual quality, the bulbs burning out, and sometimes the connecting cords get damaged from constant usages.

What makes my kids special are their personalities and experiences. My students come from all walks of life. Sometimes school is their safe space to escape, feel seen, and get food to eat. Some of my kids never have had an art class, some use art to channel their anger/frustrations and others want to take their creativity to the next level. Seeing the progress of when a student start an art project to when they finish it is a feeling that is unexplainable and one that's rewarding to witness. And excitement on their faces is priceless.
