My Students

My students are an inquisitive group that is open to learning. Many of them love hands on tools for exploring with tools such as legos, play dohs, and so forth. During their independent learning time, I gave them a project for building rovers and the whole class was excited. However, after a few weeks, I noticed only a few of them actually did it. During our morning meeting, I asked for private messages as to why they didn't complete the project. I was surprised to hear that even though they enjoy the concept, they don't have the materials. I had assumed simple items like cardboard, rubber band, and so forth should be easily accessible. This gave me the idea of sending home a kit with all the materials included.

My Project

I am integrating art into academics and want students to be able to integrate art with other subject areas. I am also looking into clean up and sanitation for current and future use. Art is a great time to teach students to express themselves and practice cleanliness. I can see students creating pipecleaner math models that can be designed into building plans. As for the sticks, they would be great for perimeter and area learning. Organization is also a skill students can use to learn to plan ahead and reflect on their learning goals.
