My students come from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds, yet they enter my classroom with excitement and eagerness to learn and grow. My school is the only Pre-K through 9th grade campus on the big island. Our students experience difficulty relating to the stories shared in the reading curriculum, because of their limited exposure to different climates and cultures. Although my students may be facing challenges in their lives, they are aways eager to learn new things.

I want to provide my 21st century learners the environment, materials, and opportunities that they need to be engaged and successful. Together we help prepare ourselves and each other for today and tomorrow, with both academic and emotional goals.
My Project
My students need the tools to create art using clay. Our school has a kiln that is ready to be used. We are asking for tools to help students sculpt and design different projects for Christmas, Mother's Day and the school show case. The clay will support projects for my fifth grade classroom. The clay, tools and glaze will give us supplies to make several projects.
Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up -Pablo Picasso
The Island of Hawaii has also had big changes in the last few months. The Volcano has left many families without homes and therefore many children are being displaced from their previous schools. For students who have not had to evacuate they have had to deal with daily stressors such as daily earth quakes and air population in the form of Vog. My goal is to create a positive way for students to create art and to feel at ease in the moment. Please consider donating to my fifth grade classroom.
