Art For Art's Sake

My students need art materials, like markers, yarn, paint and paper, to create colleges which they will enjoy and about which they will write descriptions.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"To be an artist is to believe in life." Joan Miro I want my students to believe in life and to live life to its fullest. Art can open many doors and create a new ways of looking at life.

My students are curious first graders who have a love of learning and always want to explore new concepts and ideas.

Our school is a Title 1 school with a high poverty rate with 97% receiving free or reduced lunch. Many of my students have never ventured out of their neighborhood and do not get to experience what many people take for granite. Museums, sporting events, and other cultural events are areas that most of my students do not get to take part of.

My Project

I am requesting art materials that my class will use to create mixed media colleges. In my request I have asked for multicolored yarn, paint, pencils, and a paper-making kit. I am going to use the paper kit to show my students how to make paper which in turn they will create their own college. My class will learn about the process of paper making, how to create their own piece of art, and how to look at art and describe it in a piece of writing. My students will learn how to follow a process, how to use their imaginations, and why art is important. They will also learn how to look at a piece of art and describe it.

Art is part of human nature.

There is no society that does not produce art. Art describes us, is used to tell stories, it lets us know who we are. Art is not just an 'extra' activity that is used as 'filler'. Creativity and problem solving are part of the benefits of art. My students need to be exposed to the world of art and all the benefits it entails.
