Our class consists of high school students with developmental disabilities.
We work on skills to increase each student's level of independence by teaching functional academics, vocational skills, daily living and communication skills. Students are assisted by para-educators and behaviorists.
Our students have varying abilities, and many express themselves through art and are exceptionally artistically talented. We often pair with general education students to work collaboratively on projects to beautify the classrooms and school campus (e.g., mosaic tiles and painted rocks).
My Project
Our students love hands-on art projects, especially ones that tie into lesson content and/or beautify the school. We're always in need of new and additional supplies, as materials get used and our budget runs low.
We'd like to create colorful mosaic tiles to be added to our wall mural.
Existing tiles were made by pressing objects found in nature into fresh clay, then glazed and mounted to the outside wall of our classroom. The mural is a sensory experience for students to enjoy by viewing and touching.
We also need a new stash of tempera paint/cardstock in every color for future projects.
