My Project

One of my favorite units to teach is Holidays Around the World! Every few days, beginning just after Thanksgiving and going until mid-January, a package is "delivered" to my classroom to teach my students about holiday celebrations around the world. The contents vary but usually include a letter with facts and pictures about holiday traditions in a particular country and a project or snack. My students always get so excited every time the package arrives!

This excitement, combined with their natural eagerness to learn, makes this an especially engaging experience for my students.

I'm always so impressed with how much they learn and the connections that they make. During this unit, students learn about different countries and cultures but also gain an understanding that our commonalities with others are greater than our differences.

The materials for this project will be used to enhance my existing Holidays Around the World unit. The books that I selected for my project will allow me to share high-quality, multicultural literature with my students and will provide a valuable extension to each lesson.
