My Students

My students are 14-18 year old creative and collaborative participants in my Architecture and Drafting & Design classes. We focus our attention on learning the fundamentals of architectural design and learning skills that will carry into the workplace when they graduate. These ambitious students will go on to be drafters, architects, architectural engineers, interior designers, etc.

While they are in my classroom, they learn soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

The hard skills they walk away with include knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and the architect's design process. Both sets of skills set my students up for success as they prepare for internships, college, and their future careers.

Most of my students are looking forward to opportunities to apply their knowledge of design and architecture in the real world after they graduate from high school. Others are making plans to learn more in a university or community college setting.

My Project

These architectural drafting templates will be used by each student as they are hand-drafting the floor plans they design. They will place the template on the drafting paper and trace the symbols in the appropriate places (door symbols where they want doors, window symbols where they want windows, etc.). By tracing these symbols in their appropriate places, my students will learn what the correct scale of these symbols looks like on a set of architectural plans.

Interior Designers and Architects use these templates as they're hand-drafting their sketch plans before they draw their ideas in a computer-aided design program.

This set will be the first of 3 sets I plan to bring into my classroom for my students. Other sets will include standard kitchen & bath design symbols and furniture symbols.
