AP Physics Projectile Motion

Help me give my students projectile launchers to visualize two- dimensional motion part of the physics curriculum.

My Students

My students are an array of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in an urban environment. They strive to become artists and musicians who will lead our entertainment industry one day. They are highly academically motivated in their learning, as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and so choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as College Board-level Advanced Placement classes. They also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects.

They need your help.

Our school serves students in grades 9-12 and provides rigorous academics and artistic practices. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in New York City. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and our alumni have gone on to schools such as NYU, Columbia, Hunter College, and Stony Brook University. Some even go on to become musicians on Broadway, at Lincoln Center, and even at television studios.

My Project

Students in my class are using projectiles launcher to learn two-dimensional motion. These devices will allow students to precisely launch a ball through the air and compute the measurements of the range and initial velocity the ball is launched. From this, students can calculate the distance from the table that the projectile will land. They will then compare contrast the angle at which a ball is launched to the distance it lands. Also, they will be able to measure the range at which the ball is launched and the maximum height it reaches. A projectile launcher will allow my students to get precise and accurate data to use in the lab.

Help us LAUNCH students' work into a new level of understanding with the projectile launchers.

The projectile launcher will give students hands-on practice with gathering data and determining the physical relationship between launch speed, angle, range and time in the air. The activity will allow a fun way of turning physics in to play. Students will collaborate on this lab and achieve a better grade on the Physics AP exam.
