Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most diverse schools in Las Vegas. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics, as well. Our school is home to a wonderful Public Service magnet program, focusing on careers in Law Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigations, Criminal Justice, and EMS and 911 Dispatching. In addition, many students are excited to learn Russian and go into federal law enforcement careers!
My Project
In AP Human Geography, one of the units we study is the design and layout of different city models. In addition to looking at pictures that show cities that fit these models, students will be able to use their LEGOs with a partner to demonstrate their mastery and understanding of the different city models in class. We would like sets of LEGOs in order to build our city models, as well as bases. Once we have finished using the LEGOs, bins to store them in for the next class would be great too! They will also be able to use their tactile learning in the creation of their ideal city model.
Having to build the city models with a partner will allow them to continue to work on their 21st century learning skills as well by using communication and collaboration.
