My students need an a number of oboes for the band and orchestra which will enhance the music choices we can play and bring much joy to the students who have requested to learn it!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are a Title One High School serving a diverse community of special needs and extraordinary students. We have bands in the lower schools creating great young musicians and they are growing up asking to learn the oboe. Our band and orchestra have begun combining their rehearsals, so where we previously only had strings or winds only, we will now expand to mature combined symphonic work.

A current High school student and a student who will be in high school soon have both asked to learn oboe. We do not have the resources to purchase a quality instrument. Every day, our kids ask to try the oboe. So far, I've been stalling them. As a teacher who has also been a professional oboe player for 20 years, I can inspire them....for so long.

We need a good student oboe that will last through the generations of students. A good oboe with good reeds will give our students the joy of learning a beautiful new instrument. It will also enhance the repertoire choices for our concert and open our community up to instruments they may not know. A talented oboe student could bring visibility to our school district. It will give a student discipline, time management, communication skills, performance skills, and a greater world view, all essential for college and the workforce.

Your assistance with an oboe will not only make all the difference possible as outlined above, but assist students with scholarship opportunities for college. The oboe is still more rare than violin, or flute, so they have better chances of getting that scholarship or getting into the college of their choice.
