An Irresistible Classroom Library in the Making

Help me give my students a variety of books that will inspire them to read. I want every student to have the opportunity to find a book that captures their interest and makes them want to keep reading.

My Project

My sixth-grade students are curious, energetic, and developing their identities as readers. They come to my classroom with different reading levels, interests, and experiences, and some are still searching for the book that will make reading click for them. I want every student, whether they already love reading or are still learning to enjoy it, to be able to find something in our classroom library that captures their attention.

Having the right book available at the right time can help turn a reluctant reader into an excited one.

These high-interest books will provide students with more choices during independent reading, including graphic novels, novels in verse, popular series, and stories from a variety of genres. Students will use these books throughout the school year to build reading stamina, vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.

My goal is to create a classroom where students don’t just read because they have to, but begin discovering what they enjoy as readers. I want them recommending books to one another, getting excited about the next book in a series, and finding stories they genuinely don’t want to put down.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
