Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I can't do it!!!! This is a phrase that is contagious within an emotional behavior classroom. Little by little my students come to learn that they can do more then they think. My students are motivated by the learning apps available for Ipads and I want to help enrich their learning.

I teach a class of 10 students with social, emotional and behavior disabilities.

80 % of the students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many students do not have computers and lack exposure to technology programs that promote their learning. We have a multi-grade level class of 2nd and 3rd graders. We have students that are significantly below grade level, others that are at grade level and some that are above grade level in specific subjects. My students can become frustrated with academic tasks in reading, writing and math and some have limited fine motor skills that impact their academics. My students love technology and are motivated to use these tools in the classroom.

My Project

I plan on using the Ipad in a variety of activities within the classroom. In math my students are working on building their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. There are many apps that help reinforce these skills and help increase their math fluency. In reading many of my students are working at reaching benchmark reading fluency goals for their grade levels and improving their sight word recognition. My students struggle with reading comprehension and re-telling or summarizing key components of a story. I can use the Ipad to have students record themselves while they read and then listen back to the stories they read. They can also use apps that have animated stories which will motivate them to read a variety of texts. Using an Ipad in our classroom will be an additional way to inspire my students to enjoy practicing their math and reading skills.

My students are the most hardworking students and they learn best when they are motivated and involved in learning activities.

They love animation, video games and computers. Having an Ipad will give me additional ways to have my students practice and maintain important math and reading skills.
