Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I'm starting a new adventure at a STEAM Middle School in Dallas ISD. This school opened three years ago and I'll be teaching RLA for the 8th grade class.
As exciting as it is to be at a new school, unfortunately I don't have many books for my classroom library.
I want to surround these students with interesting literature.
A lot of my students ride the bus a long way to get to this public choice school. I want to send them on the bus with great novels to read! Please help me with that if you can.
My Project
My students need to be immersed in literature! They need to be surrounded by books on their level and of high-interest. By having these books in my classroom, my students will be able to read for pleasure, hopefully allowing them to take journeys beyond their imaginations.
There's a 4-shelf bookcase in my class that is lonely for books.
Students will be able to check out books as they please and read them at their leisure. Since we are a STEAM Academy (choice school) many students travel over an hour to attend our school. As I see it, they need a great book in their backpack for those journeys! The school library is still somewhat small, so we need to give these students easy access to more books.
I'm also asking for a class set of Lois Lowry's "The Giver" that I'll use for a novel study. This is a favorite of many middle school kids.
