Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My little artists absolutely love to paint but we run into some roadblocks when approaching painting. We often fear running out of colors of paint and would love to have some large gallons of washable tempera paint to ease our worries about running out of the colors we need to create our mini-masterpieces. Setting up and distributing paint can be time-consuming and having materials such as easy FIFO squeeze bottles can help students learn to distribute their own paint with less mess. Less mess is also why we want some aprons! I have four right now, but many more students and it would be great to have enough that everyone can wear an apron if they choose.

We are learning good studio habits in the art room and having materials and tools to increase the self reliance and sufficiency of students is key to their success and a smooth-running art room.

Some of the other supplies I would love to have for my students include permanent markers in different varieties including extra fine point and colored ones. Students love to use these when they have earned the privilege and can prove they can be responsible. It is a really special treat for them! My students also love to use Play-Doh to self-regulate their emotions or as a reward after working hard on a project.

We also would love some clear storage boxes to organize our supplies better. Some of the supplies we would love to organize are some new markers, pencils, glue sticks, and dry erase markers which we use to practice a drawing before committing to paper!
