This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are full of possibilities! They have a natural appetite for music and are excited to part of something bigger than themselves through choir. Their lives are full of needs and challenges, but they show amazing courage in the battles they face every day and the obstacles they overcome. Our school services a K-8 population where the students are mostly from a Hispanic culture in an urban setting. The students come to chorus eager to learn and explore!

As a teacher at a high-poverty school serving a largely ESL population, I am convinced that my students will excel when given an opportunity to perform!

My Project

Our school Chorus will be preparing songs to sing along with over 5,000 other students from New York, Worcester MA, Albany NY, and Philadelphia metro areas! It is the Largest School Concerts In the World!

They will spend a day rehearsing and will finish the day with a complete performance at Prudential Center in Newark.

American Young Voices is an all-inclusive educational program designed to use music to develop 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, mindfulness, and innovation. They provide a multifaceted experience for children that encourages a life-long love of music.

At the American Young Voices concert, the students are the stars! They are accompanied by a live band of accomplished musicians with professional lighting and sound in front of an audience of thousands of their families and friends from our community!

Young Voices is an engaging, multi-faceted, all-inclusive program, that supports students’ developing 21st century skills, including self-reflection, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. The adapted curriculum is engaging, fun, and exciting with arrangements from standard choral literature and familiar rock and pop songs, to others of hope, inspiration, and empowerment. Students’ skill sets will be strengthened in vocal range, diction, music literacy, and other musical elements that will complement and enhance students’ learning in other areas of education.

The music often highlights themes of peace, hope, togetherness, empowerment, and unity. In an effort to prove that “music brings us together,” the Young Voices experience supports community building and emotional connections to all walks of life.
