One of my most favorite things about teaching is being able to welcome a new group of learners each year. My first graders always come to me at different ability and reading levels; however, what is the same about them is that every single one of them enters the classroom ready to learn, discover and explore! As a child, I vividly remember my favorite classrooms being colorful, welcoming and filled with books! This is the type of classroom that I strive to create for my kids!
As a kid I remember loving to read books about Amelia Bedelia, and I recently discovered that my husband did, too! Amelia Bedelia is the protagonist and title character of a series of American children's books. The stories involve Amelia Bedelia repeatedly misunderstanding various commands of her employer by always taking figures of speech and various terminology literally, causing her to perform incorrect actions with a comical effect. These books are not only written for early readers, most of the time as I Can Read books, but they also foster a child’s sense of humor! Boys and girls alike fall in love with this fun and silly character - Amelia Bedelia!
