The graphic novels featuring presidents like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and John F. Reading felt like a struggle, and confidence was low. But these graphic novels have opened a new door for them. The combination of rich historical content and engaging visuals has made complex topics accessible and exciting. For the first time, I see students eagerly picking up books, asking questions, and making connections...not just to the text, but to the idea that they, too, can grow, lead, and succeed.\r\n\r\nThese books are doing more than building reading skills; they are building confidence. Students who once avoided reading are now immersed in stories of leadership, perseverance, and courage. My students have really enjoyed using these activities and resources this week. One activity, in particular, the Hopscotch & Bean Bag Toss game, has been a huge hit! I adapted it to target both articulation and language skills using custom index cards. Each card includes a task for every student in the group, so each turn provides an individualized activity.\r\n\r\nStudents toss the bean bag into a circle and then pick up the corresponding card, which contains the task for that turn based on their goals (i.e., articulation words/phrases, WH-questions, following directions, phonics decoding). Another variation uses hopscotch with music: while hopping, students move to different squares, and when the music stops, the square they land on determines which card/task they complete.\r\n\r\nExample: For a group of three students, one card may include all three names, each with their own target words or phrases for articulation.
