This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I love my students! They are friendly and have diverse talents. All of them have an eligibility for moderate-severe autism.

One student is nonverbal and has a beautiful smile.

He can not read or write due to the severity of the autism. He needs more visual aids.

One student can not express herself in English. She would need a communication board and more visual aids.

One student is bilingual. He can easily code-switch from Spanish to English.

One student is proficient in speaking English, but has trouble reading and spelling correctly. He needs visuals and repetitions of words/ repeated readings.

One student is bilingual. She knows more English, than Spanish, but she has a difficult time expressing her thoughts in comprehensible sentences.

My Project

My students have special needs. Some have physiological impairments, lack of fine/ gross motor skills, and lack of hand-eye coordination. These in-class items will help them improve.

I have a student who needs to improve his muscular strength in his legs.

Floor exercises on a mat, using wedges, large therapy balls will improve his core. It will take lots of repetition in order for him to be able to stand up independently.

I have another student who has sensory motor issues. He needs to hand-hold sensory items in order to maintain focus and finish an academic task.

Our calming area has two deflated bean bag chairs. We are trying to revitalize them by refilling them with more fluffy beans.
