My Project

When I taught 1st and 2nd grade, my students loved the option of trading their regular chair for a Hokki stool. They liked having something different than their peers and some of the students really benefited from the ability to wiggle and wobble while they worked. I also loved the Hokki stools because they were safe, and for as much wobbling as certain kids did, they never toppled over!

Now that I’m moving up to 4th grade, I want to incorporate these alternative seating choices into our class economy, but I need additional stools tall enough for bigger kids to comfortably sit at.

I’m envisioning a class economy where students earn money for the jobs and work they do. However, they also need to pay rent for their desks and chairs, just like adults pay for rent and mortgages. The Hokki stools will have a higher price tag compared to a regular chair, just like apartments with a view or luxury cars are more expensive. I’ll continue to reserve a few Hokki stools for students that truly need them due to IEPs, attention, and sensory diagnoses.
