I teach Global Science Investigations, which is a senior level course. Many of my students are college bound. This course could be described as "what's going on now in environmental science."

We have no textbooks and are not likely to get any in the near future. However, there are two good texts on the web, as well as a great deal of material on alternative energy, fossil fuel use, global warming, and water scarcity.

If we could access this material in class, the pace of learning would accelerate greatly. We have a school of 2,000 students, but only one computer lab with 30 old PC's and one laptop cart with 30. We have 10 netbooks that I've gotten through 4 different grants. We need more to accommodate my 30 students per class.

This grant would make it possible for two students to work per netbook. This would be optimum, as the screen size is too small for 3 students. Our pace of learning would really accelerate, and the attention of the students to lesson material would improve.
