My Students

My students are fourth graders on a quest to become compassionate, inclusive global citizens! We embark each day prepared for hands on adventures in learning. Our bags are packed with tools of social emotion learning, creative conflict resolution, curiosity, and acceptance. We bravely accept challenges, seek knowledge and foster wonder-all the while trying to foster a growth mindset and positive attitude.

We want classmates to learn "how" to learn as we explore the world and the universe around us!

With a focus on critical thinking, we explore the roots of English language, apply mathematical skills to solve real world problems and situations, and explore the history and geography of our home, Utah. Whether studying map reading and making, delving into the layers of earth, unearthing fossils, experimenting with erosion, tectonic plates and following the migrations of animals and people in Utah, we strive to understand how Utah's diverse and beautiful landscape has been shaped by the many peoples who call it home.

My Project

Odyssey Voyagers embark on our learning adventures as we strive to become world wide citizens prepared to work and serve in a global environment. In our efforts to teach students how to learn, I've created a classroom maker space with hands on activities to further explore core concepts. I'd like to provide opportunities for students to use hydroponics and grow their own food. A 3D printer will allow them to further explore projects such as structure and function in animals, create a classroom business through our partnership with Junior Achievement and explore improvements in building structures to minimize the impact of earthquakes.

Each student has daily passion project time to further explore core concepts, create experiments to test hypotheses and to develop projects demonstrating their learning.

In order to develop skills with problem solving and creation, we need to further our maker space skills and materials. This type of Project Based Learning is vital for preparing our young people to be leaders and productive in solving real world problems.
