A Year of Magical Thinking

My students need a water and sand play kit, maracas, rhythm sticks, and a color changing touch board.

My Students

It is an almost unimaginable experience to see the joy on a young child's face, as they work and play in an early childhood classroom. At least, seven disciplines are addressed at any given moment: music, art, dance, theater, literature, science, and math. To have a magical year, we need certain materials.

My students are all loving, enthusiastic three, and four year old children.

The children all come from low income families who are struggling to make ends meet. Our budget has been significantly cut and we need materials to make our early childhood program work. We use a lot of disposable items and manipulatives that need to be replaced every couple of years. It is impossible to teach an early childhood class without certain materials. The young children I teach are very curious and ready to learn. The children love to create new things at center time. When given the chance, the children soar in a solid preschool program like no other. It also creates a cultural network, one with a cross-disciplinary range- that will foster a growing web of partnerships, friendships, and ongoing projects within the classroom. We need help in making our year, a year of magical thinking.

My Project

Children who grow up in an urban environment may not get the experiences that are so important in a young child's life. I would like to have a working -sand and water table, in my preschool classroom. I am requesting sand, as well as, water toys. Touching, feeling, sculpting, and getting dirty is an interactive way to get children to learn and gives them sensory opportunities. There is no right or wrong way to learn and play. I am also requesting colorful wooden rhythm sticks to introduce music from around the world. It will help the children develop eye, hand coordination, and rhythm. We also could use maracas for our music center. These maracas make a wonderful sound and are made out of wood. The best part is that the children get to decorate them. Lastly, I am requesting a color changing board. This heat sensitive board changes colors as their fingers trace letters, draw shapes, and help with fine-motor practice.

My preschool children would really benefit from these exciting activities, please consider funding us.

Teaching young children is a passion of mine, and I am constantly striving to give my students' stellar learning experiences. These activities are so important in the early years. If they do not have the opportunity now, when will they? Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
