Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom is filled with students who come from low income homes and often do not get to experience many things that other children do. Career Day has always been an exciting day for our students, staff, and volunteers. This year we are inviting our families, community members and children in our school to come to our classroom and learn about various careers. This immersive hands on experience is a student led community service experience.

We are creating our own student led Veterinarian office for other classes and members of our community to come and visit and engage in a hands on experience.

This community service initiative is going to be a wonderful way for our students to learn about this important community service. In addition to learning, our students are providing such a great community service experience for our visitors and guests.

What better way to connect students to career content than to dress up in different community career costumes as they learn about them? Activities would be designed for students to have fun while possibly making plans for their future. Our students will act out and role-play as if they were actual animal doctors, using stuffed animals of course! They will be able to wear a doctors coat and examine x-rays. They will greet "pet" owners and check them in. They will also have a cash register to pay at the end of the visit. The scholars will also demonstrate kindness towards animals and each other. The materials I am requesting will allow my scholars to not only learn and teach about different careers, but get to show their community service and leadership qualities to other general and special education students in our school!
