A Terribly Good Way to Grow Readers

My Project

My third graders are curious, energetic learners who are continuing to build their confidence and independence as readers. One of my biggest goals is to help them see reading as something they can genuinely enjoy—not simply something they have to do for school.

A class set of The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett and Jory John will give my students an engaging, laugh-out-loud novel that can hook even reluctant readers.

Its humor, memorable characters, and outrageous prank competition make it the kind of book students will be excited to pick up each day.

Through our novel study, students will strengthen important reading skills such as analyzing characters, making inferences, examining character motivation, identifying theme and central message, understanding plot and conflict, and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text. Most importantly, we will be able to laugh, discuss, think, and learn together while showing students just how much fun reading a great book can be.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
