A Take Home Book Bag Program

My Students

I teach in a general education, 1st grade, classroom. I teach a wide range of learners. Whether they are visual/spatial, verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical, interpersonal/intrapersonal, naturalistic, auditory, reading/writing, or kinesthetic learner, my aim is to meet all of their needs!

Many of my students are struggling with basic reading skills and falling behind the minimum proficiency levels because of Covid 19.

Some of this is due to school closures and not being able to access the curriculum and reading materials.

Having access to great reading materials plays a big part in being able to gain a love for learning about the world and enjoying the newness of discovery. Teaching 1st grade, my classroom is often the first experience students have of a full day of learning. I want my students to have a positive learning experience that gets them excited about being lifelong learners. Learning can be fun!

My Project

As educators we want our students to read more outside of school. I'd love to provide the tool and resources to make reading easier for kids and families at home. A take home book bag will provide families with these materials. Students will get to check out books from our classroom library, take home a scholastic magazine, a journal for writing practice, and magnetic letters to practice phonics at home. They will bring the materials back each week for new literacy materials. I want to strengthen my classroom and home partnerships. It truly does take a village!
