This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are launching a school-wide initiative called Stretch & Reflect, a wellness campaign that focuses on mental and physical self-care through movement and mindfulness. Students will organize and lead weekly yoga and journaling sessions open to the entire school community. These peer-led sessions will combine light yoga/stretching with guided journaling or reflection activities designed to help reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional regulation.

Learn basic yoga flows and breathing techniques from certified videos and resources.

Facilitate morning or after-school sessions for their peers.

Share reflective prompts for self-love, stress relief, gratitude, and emotional balance. Advocate for mental health and wellness through posters, bulletins, and social media awareness campaigns.

This student-led activity empowers teens to support one another in building healthier habits and destigmatizes conversations around mental health and well-being.

Our target community is the entire school, especially students who are struggling with stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges. Many of our students face high-pressure environments and limited access to wellness resources. Stretch & Reflect creates a safe, positive space for all students, regardless of fitness or experience level, to practice calming strategies and build supportive peer relationships.

The ultimate goal is to normalize wellness routines in the school environment and empower students to take ownership of their mental health.

We are requesting yoga mats and basic supplies to help students lead these sessions effectively. Specifically:

12 yoga mats so that students of all backgrounds can comfortably participate without needing their own. Storage straps or bins to keep the mats clean and organized between sessions.

These materials will allow our students to host inclusive, accessible wellness sessions that promote physical and emotional health throughout our school community.
