Help me give my students warm clothing and toasty socks for the winter.

My Project

In addition to providing school counselor duties, I serve as the Attendance Monitor on the attendance team. Many students are considered chronically absent (2 or more days per month), and I am responsible for contacting the parents to locate the student. Speaking to parents the number one response I received was “My child does not have clean clothes, their uniform is dirty”. We provide Uniforms to many students, but we receive new students every week and the inventory is dwindling away. The Social Worker worked her magic and now we have a washing machine that allows us to wash and fold clothes for the students weekly. We also provide incentives to the students as their attendance improves, they can choose from an edible or a sensory toy displayed on the cart. I find that sensory toys engage the student as well as provide hours of entertainment and are a constant reminder to attend school.

School uniforms keep students focused on learning and not their clothes and it enhances school pride, unity, and community spirit which is a win-win for the entire school.

When students are not in school, they miss valuable instruction time, making it difficult to get back on track upon returning.
