My Students

There is only one front row and viewing experiments from here is spectacular. Unfortunately, the views from the other rows are not as great, and virtually no science experiment details can be seen from there. If we had a document camera, everyone would have a front row seat for all experiments!

My students come from a small suburban town with many English Language Learners.

Due to the dip in the economy in recent years, families have really struggled with providing basic necessities for the children of our community. Throughout this, students are faced with a choice about what education means to them, and how it will help them to be successful in life beyond middle school and high school. My project will help to foster a love of learning in science!

My Project

In an age of budget cuts, it is proving more and more difficult to purchase laboratory materials for each student to complete an experiment on their own or in small groups. For many experiments, students watch me demonstrate an experiment. A digital document camera would allow students to watch an experiment up close and personal. Students, no matter where they are at, could experience an even better view than being in the front row. My students would be able to present their own scientific findings using the document camera, manipulate data, and explore their own hypothesis while showing their classmates what happens in an experiment rather than just telling them. A picture is worth a thousand words, so just imagine what document camera could offer with live, streaming video is worth!

This document camera will help my students to experience science in a new, technologically advanced light.

Every student will be able to see, observe, describe, and feel as though they are a part of each and every experiment and lab, even if each child is not able to individually experiment in class due to time constraints, safety or funds.
