My Project

My students are truly the best. They come to school every day eager to try new things in order to grow personally and academically. They are truly an inspiration to me. They deserve an environment that is cozy and comfortable that promotes learning with curtains, floor lamps and tension rods. An environment that is visually appealing for students to gather to discuss and complete projects together. A traditional classroom with rows of desks is a thing of the past.

Our school is located in the heart Cleveland, which was once a thriving steel industry.

Now, families struggle to meet their basic needs because of lack of employment. Some students live in a home that is cluttered and chaotic. An environment that allows them to escape to comforting place will not only help them mentally but increase their desire to gain new knowledge.

A beautiful, kid-friendly reading lounge will help my readers to become the coolest zone classroom. Anytime students are exposed to reading it is a positive nudge in the right direction. My hope is that having the option to read in the lounge will encourage literacy growth. However, achieving that feat is difficult when you lack many of the needed resources. My school is focused on leadership and inspiring others. A reading lounge would be a huge hit! I teach in a Title I school in an urban area of Cleveland. My school population is comprised of low-income students who receive free or reduced-price lunch as well universal free breakfast. Many of our students are struggling learners. Despite their individual challenges they come to school each day, eager and ready to learn. Providing my students with a comfortable place where they can sit and focus during reading lessons is key.
